Pushing The Limits of Smaller Guns is my October 2024 article in Shooting Illustrated.

I shot the entire program with my Ruger LCP Max, which I bought with my own money. The gun is stock out of the box.

The results contradict the myth that smaller guns as being suitable for only “arm’s length” encounters. Pictures tell the story of the results of the three courses that were shot.

Well put! Do you have a link or PDF for the “Shootist’s Challenge” target?
Good stuff as usual. Gary J. Glemboskiwww.GTAC.us
Excellent treatise and points as usual, sir. I continue to be slightly intrigued by the fact that most CCW quals have no time parameters and LE quals do. OTOH, a licensing agency which was hostile to carry-see NYC- could use unreasonable time limits to deny applicants. “Can’t shoot 3 targets at 10 yards in under 3 seconds from concealment, grandma? Sorry, no license for you!” The purpose of shooting is to hit target(s), so accuracy first. A “distance check” is reasonable too. I recall a young man named Dickens at an Indiana mall several years ago engaging a mass murderer and shutting him down. One estimate of initial engagement distance was 40 yards(!) It’s rare, but it happens… Thanks for your work
Eli Dicken neutralized the Greenwood Park Mall active shooter. Eli’s shooting skills were: 4 shots at 40 yards, two hits. 4 shots at 20 yards, 4 hits. 2 shots at 20 feet, 2 hits. The entire sequence was approximately 15 seconds. Taught to shoot by his grandfather, no training in the sense we would call it.
