The Rangemaster 2025 Tactical Conference is a wrap. For the Match, 251 participants (63%) of approximately 400 shows for the Conference chose to shoot the Match. It consisted of 30 rounds for the Four Second Standards and five rounds for the Tiebreaker that was shot immediately after the Standards. The target was the Rangemaster Q and more specifically the eight inch circle in the upper chest. All equipment had to be completely concealed.
I chose to shoot it with my Taurus 856 snub with Viridian LaserGrips. The laser dot was visible at all distances involved. To reload, I used a pocket full of Zeta6 K Pak2 loading strips.

My final place was 167 out of the 251 participants. Considering only one other shooter used a revolver and that was a 686 Plus, I’m happy with how I did.
What ammo did you use?
“…My final place was 167 out of the 251 participants. Considering only one other shooter ….”
I’m that “other”. I used my 2.5″ 686-Plus with Irons, ’cause my EDC 649 (J-frame 5-shot) would have dropped me 5-down on the very first (6-shot) string.
I then proceeded to drop one more than you (86 vs 87) on Standards, took exactly half a second longer (3.51 vs 3.01) on the Tie-breaker, and thus finished tied for 197th.
And am also relatively happy with how I shot: not bad for a “distinguished senior”, on two mechanical knees, with a titanium strut in my shooting arm, squinting thru glasses and cataracts, and competing with an “obsolete” gun!
I do have some quibbles about the hit-factor scoring algorithm for tie-breaker: seems like that puts raw trigger speed (and youthful reactions) over accuracy.
But overall, ’twas a useful challenge, within Tom’s (ALWAYS OUTSTANDING!) Tactical Conference. Hope to see you again next year!
