What Women Want.

Excellent food for thought. No one wants to turn into something they don’t want to be.

“Who wants to spend money, time, and effort to achieve a goal they loathe?”

  1. Hey, Claude, Here’s a quote that applies: “The great question that has never been answered, and which I have not yet been able to answer, despite my thirty years of research into the feminine soul, is ‘What does a woman want?’ ” Sigmund Freud Of course, it’s not that simple. For instance, are women’s motives qualitatively different from men’s, or are the motives themselves structurally (i.e. cognitively, emotionally, behaviorally) identical but differently distributed by sex? And what do we mean by “women” and “men,” anyway? There’s as much or more variation within sexes as between them, on both a qualitative and a quantitative level. It’s what market research calls “market segmentation” and psychologists call “individual differences.” It can get as fine-grained as you like, down to individual uniqueness. (As I told my students, “You’re unique, just like everybody else.”) And oy, we haven’t even mentioned culture yet. Plus, wait 5 or 10 years and it changes. There are ways of finding some things out, and designing appeals or persuasion to attract more women, then designing training to lead them into greater skill and responsibility. Some of this stuff is self-reinforcing, too, like any social movement. But it’s not a cottage industry. Time, money, organization. Even the best individual trainers, like Vicki Farnam, can only do so much. The NRA might help, but they have other goals and are preoccupied by politics. For what it’s worth. Hope you’re feeling better! Jack
